Hotel Salem Leksor

Hotel Salem Leksor is a family-run bed & breakfast set in the very heart of the Marrakech medina, on a quiet lane off Bab Fteuh in the Kaat Benahid quarter. Built in the traditional Moroccan style, the house wraps around a courtyard and rises to a rooftop terrace, only a few minutes on foot from the legendary Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Guests rate the location an outstanding 9.3, and couples in particular single it out for a two-person trip.

It is a practical, good-value choice for travellers who want to be inside the old town and reach the souks, palaces and gardens on foot rather than by taxi. The rooms are simple and well kept: some come with a private bathroom and air conditioning, others share the facilities at a lower rate, and each has a shower, TV and extra-long beds. Twin, double, single, triple and quadruple layouts cover solo guests, couples and small groups alike.

A daily halal breakfast is served with juice, fresh pastries, pancakes and cheese, and the property adds handy touches such as free WiFi, an airport shuttle, an on-site minimarket, luggage storage, bike and car hire and round-the-clock security. Warm hospitality and an authentic setting make it a genuine base for discovering Marrakech.

Location and what to see

Hotel Salem Leksor sits on Rue Cheikh Laksour, near Bab Fteuh in the Kaat Benahid quarter, deep inside the walled medina of Marrakech. This is the historic core of the city, a maze of narrow lanes lined with workshops, spice stalls, tea houses and small guesthouses. The location is the property's standout feature, rated 9.3 by guests, and almost everything worth seeing in the old town is within a short walk.

The beating heart of the medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa, is roughly 300 metres away and comes alive each evening with food stalls, musicians and storytellers; the surrounding souks, the largest in Morocco, are best explored mid-morning or late afternoon when the light is soft and the heat has eased. From here you can walk to Le Jardin Secret, the Mouassine and Marrakech museums, Ben Youssef Madrasa and, a little further south, the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs.

Getting here is easy: Marrakech-Menara Airport is only about 4 km away, roughly a ten-minute drive, and the property can arrange an airport shuttle. Note that cars cannot reach the door through the medina lanes, so the last stretch is on foot; it's worth agreeing a meeting point in advance. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most comfortable times to visit, with warm days and mild evenings, while high summer can be very hot. Keep some local cash on hand for the souks, monument entry fees and taxis.
